A Mysterious Sewer Discovery
In the bustling Los Angeles area, many organizations tirelessly work to rescue abandoned animals. Yet, some cases stand out, like that of a young, six-month-old retriever mix who found an unusual refuge beneath a residential neighborhood.
This pup had cleverly hidden inside a sewer drain, only occasionally peeking out. Despite her presence, she went unnoticed for weeks as people walked by, oblivious to her plight.
Everything changed when a compassionate passer-by spotted her and shared a photo on Facebook. The neighborhood’s curiosity sparked, and soon, people flocked to see the mysterious creature.
However, this newfound attention only deepened the puppy’s fear. Whenever someone approached, she would retreat into the sewer’s depths, a staggering 18 feet back.
Rescue Mission: A Test of Patience
The situation called for seasoned professionals, and Suzette Hall from Logan’s Legacy answered the call. Dubbed the “hole,” the sewer drain became a fortress for the elusive pup.
Despite using long sticks and poles, the team couldn’t coax her out. Hall realized the crowd was exacerbating the problem and politely asked everyone to disperse, formulating a new plan.
“We knew we had to cover her hole,” Hall explained. It was the only way to ensure she wouldn’t escape again.
After two days and a night of patient waiting, hunger finally drove the puppy out. The team swiftly covered the hole, preventing her return.
A Clever Capture
Unable to retreat, the pup dashed under a nearby car. The team quickly blocked the car’s underside with baby gates, while Hall skillfully slipped a snare leash over her head.
“When they yelled out, ‘Suzette, you got her,’ I literally couldn’t hold back the tears,” Hall recounted. The moment was overwhelming, and the team was overcome with emotion.
They understood the significance of the sewer to the pup—it had been her sanctuary for two long weeks. Yet, they had to remove her from that comfort zone to offer her a new beginning.
It was a necessary sacrifice for the greater good, ensuring she could embark on a brighter future.
A Fresh Start
With the pup safely in their care, the team rushed her to Camino Pet Hospital. There, she received a clean bill of health and a much-needed bath.
Named Cora, she was then prepared for foster care, marking the start of her journey towards finding a forever home.
Though Cora’s permanent family has yet to be found, she will soon be placed in a loving temporary home.
Given her sweet and cheerful nature, it’s only a matter of time before Cora finds her happily ever after.
