Despite a rocky start, Smile, the rescue pup, has become an emblem of resilience and joy!
Raised in a hoarding house with 23 other dogs, Smile never knew true love until her radiant smile changed everything.
A Challenging Start for Smile
Smile was trapped in a hoarding home overwhelmed with dogs. The owner lost control, leading to illness among the canines, prompting intervention from the At-Choo Foundation in Toluca Lake, California.
Rescuers saved all the dogs, but many were already suffering from sarcoptic mange, and some were pregnant. Fortunately, Smile’s condition was slightly better as her mange hadn’t fully spread.
Still, Smile endured significant pain, compounded by the fact that she was pregnant.
No Dog Left Behind, a rescue from Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, heard her story and were instantly captivated. They decided to bring Smile into their care despite the distance.
Bringing Light During Dark Times
Upon arriving in Minnesota, Smile was remarkably small and didn’t appear pregnant. Sadly, due to major neglect and stress, she lost her entire litter just two weeks before giving birth.
Nevertheless, Smile exhibited remarkable resilience and strength. She bravely faced quarantine due to her condition without complaint.
Her smile became her beacon, and according to Stephanie Easley, NDLB’s manager, she taught everyone to smile along with her!

Easley couldn’t resist fostering this tiny girl. She brought Smile home temporarily and went to great lengths to ensure she felt at home.
They shared endless moments of joy together, waking up with smiles, playing with smiles, and even going to bed with smiles.
Despite receiving her medication and regular medicated baths, she remained incredibly trusting and calm, as if she knew she would never face hardship again.
The Happy Ending Everyone Hoped For
Applications poured in, but Smile had to complete her treatment before finding her forever home. Finally, the perfect family appeared to take her where she always belonged!
“Smile joined a wonderful family and we are confident that she will live her best life with them,” the NDLB team wrote.
Today, Smile is a joyous dog, reveling in her new life and basking in happiness!
