Rescued and Rejected

Honey’s life had been a roller coaster of homes and heartache. This sweet Husky girl was adopted during an event in Tampa, Florida, and for a moment, her happiness knew no bounds. But fate had a different plan for her, leaving her alone once more.

After spending five years in her first home, Honey found herself back in a shelter due to a family member’s allergy. This resilient soul waited for another chance at love, only to be let down because she was deemed “boring.”

The adopter mentioned, “She didn’t eat much, showed little interest in treats, toys, or playing. Honey is very quiet, calm, and spends most of her day sleeping,” as shared by volunteers on the Rescue Me Tampa page.

Returned to the shelter, Honey’s fate seemed sealed. However, thanks to Julie Bassett from Husky Life Rescue, she was taken to a temporary home where she could finally find some peace.

A Shocking Discovery

At ten years old, Honey was perceived to be extremely depressed. Despite her loving nature, she wasn’t active. But the true reason behind her behavior was a shock to everyone.

Honey wasn’t “boring” – she was incredibly ill! Even more startling, she wasn’t ten years old but actually closer to fifteen.

“Honey was taken to the veterinarian today. We have been informed that Honey is actually closer to 15 years old. Her liver and pancreas were elevated quite high. She does have a UTI and respiratory infection. It’s no wonder she was ‘boring.’ Kind of hard to be motivated when you feel so bad,” HLR wrote on Facebook.

Julie was heartbroken by the news but committed to caring for Honey. She was admitted to North Polk Animal Hospital, where her treatment began immediately.

The Road to Recovery

Despite her dire condition upon arrival, it took only two days for Honey to start feeling better. The medications and pancreatitis therapy worked wonders.

In no time, Honey began to regain her old glow. She might have been old, but her spirit started to shine once more.

Honey’s true nature came through as she enjoyed belly rubs and cuddles with the hospital staff. She reciprocated all the love she received, proving she was a big lover at heart.

Though she needed more time to fully recover before moving to a forever home, Honey was finally safe and happy, enjoying her days without worries.

A Happy Ending in Sight

Honey’s story touched many hearts, showing that sometimes, “boring” is just a symptom of something deeper. Her journey from abandonment to adoration is truly inspiring.

Why didn’t the first shelter notice she was ill? Seems like a big oversight.
