Rescue Mission

While patrolling, an officer encountered a scene that tugged at the heartstrings. A distressed, injured dog had sought refuge in an open concrete pipe after being struck by a car. Concerned for the animal, the officer hurried to the pup’s hiding spot, hoping to offer assistance. As he peered into the pipe, his eyes met the sorrowful gaze of the frightened dog. Determined not to abandon her, he gently coaxed her to come out. Thankfully, the dog responded, limping out to be carefully taken to the vet.

At The Vet

Upon arriving at the veterinary clinic, veterinarians scanned the pup for a microchip, but discovered none, indicating she had no previous owner. This put her at risk of euthanasia, but the compassionate team at People for Animal Care & Kindness intervened. They generously covered the costs of the emergency surgery, ensuring the pup’s survival. Transferred to Sumner Veterinary Hospital, she began her recovery journey. In the caring hands of the staff, Piper started to feel safe again, a sentiment echoed by Nichol Phillips from Sumner Veterinary Hospital.

Road to Recovery

Thanks to successful surgery, Piper found a loving foster home where she began to flourish. She enjoyed car rides and the company of other dogs, slowly regaining her strength. The foster environment played a crucial role in her rehabilitation, helping her overcome the trauma. With each passing day, she grew more confident and lively. It’s heartwarming to think that soon, Piper will find a permanent, loving home where she can leave her past behind.

Drive Cautiously

Research from Pet Playgrounds highlights that around 1.2 million dogs die annually due to car accidents. This includes pets that are not properly restrained. While traveling with pets is enjoyable, their safety must be prioritized. Additionally, if your backyard is near a road, ensure your dog is securely contained. An unrestrained dog may dash into traffic, chasing something of interest. Always ensure your pet’s safety in and around vehicles, and remain vigilant on the road to protect all furry friends.

Why wasn’t the dog microchipped in the first place? This could have been avoided!
