Rescuers’ Hearts Melt as They Discover This Rare Newborn Puppy and Rush to Save Him

Fighting To Survive Since Day One

In California, a concerned neighbor reached out to a dedicated animal rescuer about a desperate litter of puppies. These newborns were clinging to life under their deceased mother. Among them was the tiniest, frailest pup, later named Lucky, who was barely the size of a baby hamster.

Despite the grim prognosis, the rescuer refused to give up on Lucky. She tirelessly fed him with formula every twenty minutes, sacrificing her sleep for his survival. Her Instagram post revealed, “Lucky’s first 8 weeks of life I hardly ever slept. I would stay up watching him making sure he was still alive and breathing.”

Weeks of round-the-clock care finally paid off when Lucky’s life was no longer in imminent danger. However, his health challenges were far from over. As his eyes opened, he was diagnosed with a yeast infection and corneal ulcer, leading to the removal of one eye.

His rescuer shared, “We found out he was blind from one eye and actually had a puncture in his eye and a corneal ulcer. As he got older, the ulcer and puncture grew and started causing him pain, so at 4 months old, we removed his eye.”

At ten weeks, another diagnosis came: albinism. This condition was a result of a recessive gene, likely due to inbreeding. Lucky’s albinism added another layer of complexity to his care, but his will to live remained strong.
