A Life-Changing Encounter in the Mountains
Last July, Tia and her 76-year-old father set off on what they thought would be a routine hike. They spent hours enjoying the majestic views and the thrill of reaching the summit. But their descent took an unexpected turn when they discovered a severely injured Springer Spaniel. The dog was in a critical state, and without any owners in sight, Tia knew immediate action was necessary.
Faced with the dog’s dire condition, Tia realized that leaving him behind would mean almost certain death. Her compassionate nature took over, and without hesitation, she decided to rescue the animal. Her courageous decision was the beginning of a journey that would test her physical and emotional limits.
Determined to save the dog, Tia lifted the 55-pound Spaniel into her arms. The path ahead was long and challenging, but her resolve never wavered. Her story has since touched hearts worldwide, highlighting the extraordinary lengths one can go to save a life.
In an interview on Pickler and Ben’s YouTube channel, Tia recounted the series of events that led to the rescue. The video has garnered over 61,000 views, captivating audiences with her inspiring tale. “The dog was with another family,” she recalled, “They asked if he was mine, and I said no.”
The Decision to Act
The family that initially found the dog was at a loss, especially since they had young children with them. Unable to take the injured dog along, they turned to Tia for a solution. Recognizing the urgency, Tia knew she had to act. The dog, whom she later learned was named Boomer, couldn’t walk on his own. Tia decided to carry him herself.
With a six-mile journey ahead, Tia’s strength and resolve were put to the test. “We came together and decided that I would carry him down and seek help,” she explained. The physical challenge was immense, but Tia’s determination never faltered. She described Boomer’s condition and the uncertainty of how long he had been out there.
The trek back was arduous. A gymnast with strong quads, Tia found the task overwhelming. The rough terrain and the weight of the dog made every step a struggle. At one point, she felt so exhausted that she prayed for assistance. “I took lots of breaks,” she said, “and felt a ‘divine intervention’ that made Boomer’s weight feel lighter.”
Despite the grueling effort, Tia’s perseverance paid off. When she finally reached the base of the mountain, Boomer’s story began to unfold. He had been hiking with his owners when he slipped and fell from a 100-foot cliff. His owners, unable to find him, had searched tirelessly until nightfall, fearing the worst.
A New Beginning for Boomer
Tia learned that Boomer’s owners were moving to Arizona, and the hike was meant to be his final adventure before being handed over to new owners. The thought of Boomer injured and alone weighed heavily on Tia’s heart. “It tugged at my heartstrings all night,” she said, “and when I woke up, my first thought was, ‘that dog’s supposed to be mine.’
Moved by her connection to Boomer, Tia reached out to his owners. After heartfelt discussions, it was decided that Boomer would stay with her. Though he still required surgery to repair his bones, Boomer was already showing signs of recovery and adapting to his new home.
Tia’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact one person’s kindness and determination can have. Her selfless act of carrying Boomer for six hours through challenging terrain not only saved his life but also inspired many others. Boomer’s journey from a tragic fall to finding a loving new home is a testament to the resilience of both animals and the humans who care for them.

Did the original owners get to see Boomer again before he stayed with Tia? I’m curious!
