Unexpected Visitor at Work

Kristin Erwin began her day like any other, unaware of the surprise that awaited her. As she settled into her routine, she noticed a large dog, tail wagging, peeking into her office. Her heart melted seeing his gentle yet frightened eyes, and she quickly opened the door to him.

The dog, a massive Mastiff, seemed to be seeking help. Despite his evident fear, he displayed a friendly demeanor. Erwin and her colleagues sprang into action, posting his photo on Lost and Found pages, hoping to reunite him with his owner.

When the next day arrived, the dog emerged from beneath a trailer, greeting them with a wagging tail and a warm smile. Sadly, their attempts to find a foster home were unsuccessful, and he spent his days at the office property.

With the weekend approaching, Erwin couldn’t bear to leave him alone. She decided to bring him home, and the Mastiff, later named Hoss, was elated to have a home, showing his appreciation with an unending grin.

Adjusting to a New Home

Once home, Hoss hesitated at the threshold, unsure about entering. The unfamiliarity of a house dog life seemed daunting, and the tile floors frightened him. As an experienced foster, Erwin knew patience was key and allowed him time to adjust.

A week passed, and Hoss was ready to meet Erwin’s dogs. They played a crucial role in teaching him how to be a house dog. It was a joy for Erwin to see him gaining confidence and stepping out of his shell.

“As soon as our dogs coaxed him outside, he followed them. The moment he touched the grass, he was sprinting and playing,” Erwin shared, overjoyed at his progress.

Hoss discovered the joy of lounging on the couch, relishing the comfort perhaps for the first time. Finding the bed was another delight, and he was content to spend hours there, snuggling and giving kisses to his foster family.

Transition to a Forever Home

After a month with Erwin in Texas, Bullmastiff Rescuers stepped in to find Hoss a permanent home. Although saying goodbye was emotional, Erwin was confident he would find happiness.

Hoss transitioned to another foster home and soon moved to New Jersey, where a loving family awaited him. Updates from his new parents reassured Erwin that he had found the joy he deserved.

His new family shared that Hoss helped his doggy sister, Sammy, overcome anxiety, becoming the protective brother she needed. “Hoss was the lively, goofy, playful one,” Erwin said, proud of his transformation.
