Unexpected Morning Discovery
Early one morning, the staff at Forsyth County Animal Shelter in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, were stunned to find two puppies waiting by the entrance. The sight of these helpless pups left in separate kennels, with no identification or documentation, was both surprising and concerning. The only clue was a brief, handwritten note.
The puppies, of different breeds, seemed bewildered and in need of care. Despite the initial shock, the dedicated team at FCAS wasted no time. They immediately brought the puppies inside, ensuring they felt safe and welcomed. The staff’s quick response was a testament to their commitment to animal welfare.
The note, though sparse, provided some basic information about the puppies. It included their names, approximate ages, and a bit about their personalities. One was named Simba, an Australian Shepherd mix, described as very friendly. The other, Nala, a German Shepherd mix, was noted to have worms and an unknown birthday, estimated to be around 12 weeks old.
Despite the lack of detailed information, the FCAS team refrained from making any judgments. They expressed gratitude for the puppies being left in a visible location, where they could be easily found and helped. They also showed empathy towards the unknown person who left them, understanding that it might have been a difficult decision.
The Mysterious Note
The handwritten note left on one of the kennels was succinct. It mentioned the puppies’ names, breeds, and a few details about their demeanor. For instance, it read, “Simba – very friendly, Australian Shepherd mix,” and “Nala – German Shepherd mix, has worms, unknown birthday, approx. 12 weeks.”
Although the note provided some information, it wasn’t enough to uncover the puppies’ past. However, the FCAS team chose not to dwell on the unknowns. They emphasized their role in providing a safe haven for the puppies, rather than passing judgment on the person who left them.
In a compassionate response, the team urged the person who left the puppies to come forward and share more details about their history. Sadly, no one has come forward yet. This has made it challenging for the shelter to gather more information about the puppies’ background and previous care.
Nevertheless, the team remains hopeful. They continue to care for Simba and Nala, ensuring they receive the best possible care and attention while awaiting their forever homes. Their story has touched many hearts, highlighting the importance of empathy and understanding in such situations.
Awaiting a Forever Home
It’s been over three months since Simba and Nala were left at the shelter, and neither has found a permanent home yet. Despite the time that has passed, the shelter continues to hold out hope that their previous owners might come forward.
Both puppies are still under a stray hold, meaning they are not yet available for adoption. The shelter wants to give the previous owners ample time to reclaim them. In the meantime, they are being well cared for by the compassionate team at FCAS.
The good news is that Simba and Nala are thriving in their temporary shelter. They have adapted well to their new environment and are receiving the care and attention they need. The shelter staff is confident that when the time comes, these two adorable pups will find loving, permanent homes.
Until then, the staff and volunteers at FCAS are dedicated to providing the best possible care for Simba and Nala. They remain optimistic that the right families will come along to offer these puppies the love and stability they deserve.

Why would someone abandon such adorable puppies? 😢 People can be so cruel sometimes.

It’s so sad that someone had to leave them like that, but I’m glad they were found by such a caring team.

Does anyone know if they’ve found their forever homes yet? I’d love to adopt them if they’re still available.
